The Mourinho Way

What I Have Learned From Jose Mourinho

  1. You may be a great player but you are not a successful player until you win a championship. You may be a great coach but you are not a successful coach until you win the championship.
  2. We always need someone on the team to shatter the status quo.
  3. The team is more important than the individuals.
  4. A coach must always confront the unmotivated players.
  5. We don’t win a game during the 80+ minutes.  A winning team is made day by day, training session by training session, minute by minute.
  6. Motivation is the most important thing.  Some of them can and they don’t want to.  Some of them can’t and want to.  We want players that can do it and want to do it!
  7. Every game has to be the final.  If you want to be champions every game has to be the final.
  8. Your life changes when you lose.
  9. Coaches build bridges from the known to the unknown, from the new to the known…
  10. Only a great team with luck can win the Champions League.  Only a great team can win the Premiership.  With 38 games there is no luck.
  11. My players are always the best players in the world even if they are not.
  12. Friday we will train team defending, Saturday we will train team attacking, Sunday we will train the transition from the attack to defense, Monday we will train the transition from defense to the attacks and on Tuesday we will train set plays.
  13. Coaches must always create new motivation. Ambition is a weapon that makes a team play well.
  14. Players don’t win trophies.  Teams win trophies.
  15. Transition wins championships.
